Three Months Skill Development Training programme on Basic Electrician Course for the jail inmates
Bongaigaon,8th July: With the aim to provide opportunities for the prison inmates to engage themselves in fruitful pursuits during the term of their sentence in prison, a three month long skill development training programme starts from today in Bongaigaon for the jail inmates of Abhayapuri, Bongaigaon, organized by District Legal Services Authority Bongaigaon in close assistance with Bongaigaon Polytechnic.This three month duration programme will be a training programme/ workshop on Basic Electrician Course which will end on 7th of October, 2019 starting from today.Besides the main objective, the course is expected to enhance the employability potentiality of the prisoners after their release and thereafter rehabilitation because the incarceration of sentenced persons in prison not only lead to stigmatization but also cause their social disorientation owing to their having remained practically cut-off from social integration.
The inaugural function of the aforesaid programme held today at 3.30 p.m in the premises of District Jail Abhayapuri.During the event, a tree plantation drive was also carried out in the jail premise by Aie Valley Division Bongaigaon and Social Forestry, Bongaigaon and planted 200no.s of saplings in the jail premise taking into account of the recently concluded festive environment of Van-Mahotsav in the district.
Shri Binod Kumar Cherri, A.J.S., District & Sessions Judge cum Chairman, DLSA, in his welcome address placed the main objectives of the event and bringing a reference of the award winning Bollywood movie of 1957 -'Do Aakhein Barah Hath' as his inspiration to initiate such an effort, he asserted that this training will be very much helpful to provide an opportunity to the jail inmates who are sentenced for a long term to utilize their time in jail which will cater to their rehabilitation and reformation after the period is over.
Attending the event ,Deputy Commissioner Bongaigaon Adil Khan said that our criminal justice system is reformative-to reform the jail inmates in becoming a good human being.While addressing the jail inmates he again said that they all are not here to suffer, but to change and reform and to lead a dignified life after release from prison which are their human rights.He further added that in order to serve this purpose only skill development training is started to enable them to start a work after release and look after their family and lead a respectable life.On a serious note he again asserted that our system-the Govt, the Administration and the Judiciary- we all have not forgotten or neglecting you; we are always thinking and working for your betterment.
Continuing his speech he further added that there will be more such skill development program in future and daily Yoga is also being started. While talking about plantation, D.C. Bongaigaon Khan told the name inmates that one sapling has been given to each one you today to plant in the jail premises as part of honourable CM’s vision of clean and green and pollution free Assam and since you all are away from your family and children,treat this sapling as your own child,protect it and nurture it like your child and see it grow.
Sri Chakradhar Das Principal, Bongaigaon Polytechnic mentioned in his speech that there is a programme named 'Community Development and Training Programme' in his polytechnic institute and under this programme only he has initiated this effort for the development of this community of jail inmates.

A J.S. cum Secretary, DLSA, Bongaigaon, in his concluding speech, let the crowd of the inaugural function to know that from this coming 13th July, one month duration Yoga training will be starting for the jail inmates.In the first phase, few of them will be trained so that they can carry on Yoga sessions for their fellow inmates further.He further informed that DLSA will take special initiative to avail financial assistance like necessary loans to the jail inmates if they want to start any business venture on their own for their rehabilitation.
The jail inmates will be provided joint certificate by District Administration,District Judiciary and Bongaigaon Polytechnic on successful completion of this training programme.
